Forest Department Forest Department is responsible for the management of forests, wildlife, rangeland, watersheds, sericulture, medicinal plants, soil conservation and raising, in addition to management of plantations under the harsh climatic conditions. The department focuses to conserve the existing natural resources and to put a stop to rapidly deteriorating environmental conditions. In its protective role, the department is making unremitting efforts for economical ways and means to improve the vegetative cover by introducing exotic, fast growing, multipurpose species at suitable potential sites.
The area under the control of Balochistan Forest Department is 1.09 million hectares. Precipitation paucity (200-350 mm per annum) is the major limiting factor for forest growth: the soil formation is also hard, shallow and rocky. Vegetation is sparse and consists mostly of slow growing plants. Most of the area of the province is desert and rangeland which are mainly used for grazing purposes.
The department manages three national parks comprising 3, 48, 259 hectares, 14 game sanctuaries with 9, 51, 235 hectares and game reserves of 2, 35, 813 hectares: all forming an area of 15, 35, 307 hectares.
