Najmuddin, CM Balochistan discuss Afghan refugees issue Print E-mail

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for State and Frontier Region (SAFRON), Najmuddin Khan has said that his ministry would extend all possible support to the Baluchistan’s government for rehabilitation of Afghan refugees living in the province. He said the Balochistan Package  announced by the Prime Minister would be implemented in letter and spirit. He said the ministry of SAFRON has a vital role in this respect and would extend all possible support to  Balochistan.

He was talking to Chief Minister Balochistan Nawab Aslam Raisani, who called on him here  on Monday. Provincial Minister for Finance, Balochistan and senior officials of federal and provincial governments were also present in the meeting.

The minister informed the Chief Minister that the Federal government has decided to upgrade the existing system of Balochistan  Levy and a summary for creation of 3000 posts of Levy has been sent for Cabinet approval.

He also assured the Chief Minister that the federal government would provide financial support for infrastructure development as well as provision of education and health facilities with supply of drinking water for 1.7 million Afghan refugees.

The repatriation of Afghan Refugees to Afghanistan also came under discussion. The minister said  due to the worst law and order situation of Afghanistan, the date of repatriation which was 31-12-2009, would be extended with the support of UNHCR and Afghan government.

The minister said  sufficient funds have been allocated to reconstruction and rehabilitation of Malakand division.

He added construction of two universities; Benazir University and  Swat Universities have been announced by the government.

Meanwhile, an Ulema delegation led by Mufti Ferozuddin Hazarvi, Advisor to Chief Minister Sindh also called on the minister.
