Govt to install 1,000 MW TV booster in Gawadar: Senate told Print E-mail
ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira Friday said the government has decided to install 1,000 Mega Watt TV booster in Gawadar for coverage in Muslim countries.Responding during the question hour session, he said this booster would help improve the Television service there, adding that it has also been considered to ask PTV, PBC and PTCL to use same installment for the network coverage.

He said that though the boosters were installed in different areas on the basis of commercial viability, but the network would be extended to far flung areas also.

He said that there are seven re-broadcast stations (RBS)/ Boosters of PTV in FATA, where 63 employees mostly local people were working.

Replying to a question of Ishaq Dar regarding withdrawal of TV fee, the Minister said that in most of the countries state run radio and television are funded by the state.

He said if the Finance Ministry agrees to fund this institution then the Ministry has no objection to withdraw the fee, he, however, advised the Senator to move a motion in the House for withdrawal of fee.

To another question the Minister said that all the contractual employees are being regularized and the Ministry have requested for supplementary grant in this regard.

Replying to a question regarding illegal FM, the Minister said that the government have latest equipment to destroy and jam the service of such illegal and mobile FM stations, adding “we have destroyed a number of illegal FM stations, however, there are some illegal mobile FM station operating in far flung areas and we are taking measures against them.”
