QUETTA: The Balochistan Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution on Monday demanding of the federal government to include the province’s fishermen in the labour class so that they could get social benefits from the labour department.
The resolution was jointly tabled by Zahoor Buledi and Abdur Rehman Mengal and was endorsed by the entire house. The movers said the province’s fishermen had not been registered in the social security plan as regular labourers due to which they were unable to get any social incentive from the federal labour department.
Balochistan’s Minister for Fisheries, Hamal Kalmati, said that no fund had been released to his department in the past two years due to which the ministry was unable to execute any uplift scheme for the welfare of the sector and the poor fishermen.
Some legislators also raised objection over the federal government’s issuance of permits to Arab dignitaries to hunt bustard in Balochistan. They expressed fear of extinction of the bird’s species and demanded for cancellation of these permits and ban on their issuance in the future.
